Is it true that no one is getting vaccinated in Coronado?

Fiction! Almost 99% of residents in Coronado zip code 92118 have been fully vaccinated.

With widely-available vaccines has come wide speculation on the vaccination rates of different areas in San Diego County. However, Coronado has rates among the highest in the region.

As of October 13, 2021, 999 of every 1,000 Coronado residents in zip code area 92118 had been vaccinated, a surprising figure in comparison to communities like the Torrey Pines area which falls under zip code 92093 (whose current number falls at 598.5 per 1,000).

The San Diego Association of Governments shows data which confirms that Coronado has a higher number of residents over the age of 65 than surrounding areas – which can help to explain the high vaccination rate considering vaccines were made available for people over age 65 back in January of 2021.

Coronado is also one of the whitest and wealthiest communities in San Diego County, while vaccination rates tend to be lower in lower-income communities which are more highly populated by Black or Latino people and other minorities, such as South Bay (733.9 vaccinated per 1,000). This phenomenon has spurred a governmental push to make vaccines more accessible to residents of these areas.
